Town of Hempstead

In wake of the extreme heat, Hempstead opens cooling centers and extends hours at pools and beaches.

Fifteen cooling centers are open from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Hours have been extended at nine pools and eight beaches to keep residents safe and healthy through Friday, July 19.

Town of Riverhead

All four Riverhead Town Beaches will remain open until 7 p.m. beginning today through Friday, July 19.

Town of Brookhaven

Centereach and Holtsville pools will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Town beaches at Davis Park Beach, Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai, West Meadow Beach in Stony Brook and Corey Beach in Blue Point will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Great Gunn Beach on Fire Island will be open Wednesday, July 17, through Friday, July 19, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The town has opened cooling centers at the Henrietta Acampora Recreation Center in Blue Point, New Village Recreation Center in Centereach, Mastic Recreation Center in Mastic and Rose Caracappa Senior Center in Mount Sinai from today through Friday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Southold Cooling Centers

Supervisor Scott Russell urges all residents to take necessary precautions in light of the oppressive heat that has gripped our area. The Town is partnering with local libraries to provide cooling centers to enable those residents without air conditioning the ability to stay cool. Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, July 16th the Human Resource Center located at 750 Pacific Street will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for anyone looking for respite from the high heat and humidity. In addition, local libraries are offering their facilities as noted below, weekdays:

Mattituck Laurel Free Library 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Cutchogue New Suffolk Free Library 9:30 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Southold Free Library 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.

Floyd Memorial Library 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.


Nassau County Pool Hours

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano is extending the closing times of pools at Cantiague Park, Christopher Morley Park, Nickerson Beach, North Woodmere and Wantagh Park. They will be open until 8 p.m. through July 17.
