Union leaders held an informational demonstration in front of Pindar’s Wine Store and tasting room in Port Jefferson Saturday – part of an ongoing contract dispute with the winery.
Local 338 represents around a dozen farm workers at the East End winery who voted to organize a year ago. They were the first winery in New York to unionize.
Since then, the union says Pindar has not negotiated with representatives and has yet to agree to a contract related to wages, worker treatment and overtime.
“Pindar has put roadblocks at every turn, but all we are trying to do it get a fair contract for these workers,” said union president John Durso. “After a year of trying to get this contract, we decided we need to take some sort of action to try and get the community to be supportive.”
The tasting room closed during the demonstration. News 12 reached out to Pindar's owner for a comment and have yet to receive a response.
