After 71 years in service, the Bronx Terminal Market is being taken down to make way for a new shopping mall.Construction is underway at the site of the future Gateway Shopping Center, located on 149th Street and River Avenue. Developers say the $500 million project will revitalize the South Bronx. Merchants who used to work at the market, however, call the plan a sweetheart deal and say they are upset with the city for displacing them. The developer plans to have the shopping center finished by 2009.
