Hundreds of people packed a public hearing last night with concerns over a new plan to turn a 100 year old Glen Cove home into a residence for women with eating disorders.
Many people in the area say they're worried the facility would change the character of the city.
However, representatives from the California-based company say there's a great need for it here on the Island.
Jennifer Gallagher says “There are no community residences on Long Island for adults. There are only 14 beds and one program operated by Monte Nido in the whole state of New York."
There was no vote on the plan last night.
The City of Glen Cove was granted an extension to further deliberate.
A response is due Feb. 26.
