Grief counselors were at Coram Elementary School Thursday after the district learned about the death of a fourth-grader Wednesday night.
The circumstances surrounding the death have not been revealed.
The school district has not publicly identified the student, but parents say he was a boy in the fourth grade.
"I can't imagine," said one parent. "[I'll be] hugging my kids a little bit closer tonight."
In a statement, the Longwood Central School District said it was "saddened to learn of the passing of one of our precious children. Our sincere condolences and thoughts go out to the family and friends of our student."
