Parents, educators and school administrators lined up along Main Street in Holbrook to protest what they say are Gov. Andrew Cuomo's failed education policies.
The governor visited Suffolk County Monday evening for a political fundraiser. Opponents of the controversial Common Core curriculum say they used it as a chance to send a clear message to Cuomo.
The crowd of protesters awaited the governor's arrival at Villa Lombardi's for the Suffolk County Democratic Committee dinner.
Connetquot Teachers Association President Anthony Felicio says Albany and Gov. Cuomo have ignored the cries of teachers and parents for too long. He says they won't back down until Cuomo hears their voices.
"I know he's scheduled to speak in May at the state Democratic Committee in Melville, and we will be there for that also," Felicio says. "This is a precursor to that. That one will even be bigger."
Environmental groups also rallied to demand that Cuomo ban natural gas fracking.
Political strategist Mike Dawidziak says the governor can expect more political attacks, particularly on education, as the November elections approach.
