A Commack man has won this year's pumpkin contest.
Scott Armstrong has come in first at the annual pumpkin weighing contest at Hick's Nurseries in Westbury.
Armstrong tells Newsday he won because he was growing a "backup" gord.
Yesterday's winner tipped the scales at more than 1,000 pounds.
Armstrong says he had one that was more than 1,300 pounds and still growing, but it split open a few weeks ago.
