The mother of a Columbine High School massacre victim visited a Hempstead middle school with messages of hope Friday.
Beth Nimmo's daughter, Rachel, was the first of 13 people killed in the 1999 school shooting in Colorado. During a program, Nimmo told Alverta B. Gray Schultz Middle School students she has always wondered what would have happened to her daughter if people had been kinder to their peers. Nimmo presented the program to about 1,100 students, many of whom left saying the message was received.
Alverta B. Gray Schultz Middle School is no stranger to violence. On February 10, police arrested three students in connection with the stabbing of a fellow student just off school grounds.
