The recent frigid temperatures have caused some water problems in Wyandanch and other communities across Long Island.
At least two houses on Bedford and Birch streets in Wyandanch were without water since Sunday morning, according to landlord Artie Rescigno.
"It wasn't an easy time," Rescigno said. "They couldn't brush their teeth, take any baths or anything like that. They had nothing. No wash."
Residents thought the issue was caused by a water main break, but Suffolk County Water Authority said the problem was a frozen service line that crews fixed Monday evening.
Rescigno said he's glad that problem is fixed, but he still expects more issues to follow this winter.
"We have a bunch of houses, and we've had a lot of problems with pipes freezing and everything," he said. "It's been very, very unusually cold."
There have been several water main breaks and frozen pipe problems since the cold snap gripped Long Island.
Bellmore, Valley Stream and Plainview are among the affected communities in Nassau. In Suffolk, the water authority said there have been more than 50 water main breaks within the past three days.
"This is an unprecedented event," said Jim Gaughran, the Suffolk Water Authority chairman. "In the 10 years I've been with the Suffolk County Water Authority, we have never had as many water main breaks in this long a period of extreme cold weather."
The company urges residents to call them as soon as they notice a problem with a water main or a frozen pipe. Officials said crews are working around the clock to fix the problems.
