Closing arguments in the trial of NYPD sergeant Erik Duran began Tuesday at the Bronx Hall of Justice.

Duran stands accused of throwing a cooler at Eric Duprey as he fled from a Kingsbridge Heights drug bust on a motorbike. The cooler struck Duprey’s head, knocking him off the bike and killing him.

Leaders of Black Lives Matter Greater New York say he was wrongfully targeted in the 2023 undercover narcotics operation.

Duran pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
