A store clerk was fatally shot inside a convenience store in Valley Stream Friday night.
The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. at the AL Mini Mart on Ocean Avenue.
Police have identified the victim as 36-year-old Edwin Lopez of Oceanside, who was shot to death during a robbery attempt.
Police say they found Lopez shot when they arrived. He was then rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Relatives tell Newsday that surveillance footage shows Lopez chasing the two suspects before he was shot.
People in the community say Lopez will be missed.
"He's our neighbor. Sometimes when it snows, like last year, he would come and clean my driveway," says neighbor Molienn Philip.
Police say so far no arrests have been made.
