Yankees all-star Roger Clemens and his former trainer were on Capitol Hill Thursday, each telling a different story about the ace pitcher?s alleged steroid use.
Clemens? former trainer Brian McNamee gave a sworn deposition to House lawyers that he helped inject his client with steroids over the years. He reiterated the accusations he made known in December?s Mitchell Report. He said he has the syringes and gauze pads to prove it.
Clemens met with a dozen congressmen for an informal meeting, denying he used performance-enhancing drugs. He previously made the same statements when speaking to congressional lawyers days before.
Rusty Hardin, one of Clemens? lawyers, said his client met with individual representatives to help clear his name. "?to assure them privately the same thing he's saying publicly - that he didn't take steroids, and he didn't take human growth hormone and he's here to talk to anybody about it who wants to,? Hardin said.
Some Long Island fans don?t believe the seven-time Cy Young winner knowingly took anything illegal and are skeptical of McNamee?s claims. "Why would the guy who's claiming he injected him hang on to all this paraphernalia for all these years? I mean if you take a band-aid off do you keep it?? Paul Stone, of Hicksville, asked.
Clemens, current Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte and others are scheduled to testify at a House committee public hearing next week.
