Players on the Plainedge High School football team say they?re getting death threats from their fellow students.
Players say the threats against them have been made by phone, in person and by e-mail. The most recent threats were made Friday before the team?s playoff game at Hofstra University, parents say. Players say a group of about two dozen showed up uninvited to a victory party at a private home about two weeks ago and is now trying to start trouble with the team and parents.
Police say they?re investigating a number of criminal mischief and minor assault incidents involving students. One case involves 16-year-old Plainedge student Ronald Martin who allegedly sent e-mails threatening football players. He is charged with four counts of aggravated harassment. His father tells News 12 Long Island the incident was a stupid mistake on his son?s part.
The district superintendent says school officials are taking the matter very seriously and will continue to cooperate with Nassau police in their investigation.
