The City of Paterson is celebrating Black History Month by unveiling an exhibit featuring Black artists.
News 12 got an inside look at the work on display and the artists who created it.
“These artworks, and the majority of my artworks, revolve around Black men’s mental health,” said local artist Malik Hall.
Artist and teacher Christopher Fabor Muhammad presented a piece by one of his students based on a poem she heard throughout her childhood.
“It was a powerful poem about accepting who you are,” he said. “She ties that in beautifully with the powerfulness of saying ‘I’m Black, that’s who I am. I’m beautiful and I accept it’. That lesson is the greatest lesson that not just Black people, but any human being can learn in life.”
