The message of the city?s new safety campaign is rules may slow down progress at a construction site, but they are there for a reason.
Several incidents at Bronx and city construction sites have prompted the Department of Buildings to launch a mass mailing to reinforce existing safety rules and regulations. The safety outreach campaign is targeting general contractors, hoisting machine operators and licensed riggers. The department is also asking industry workers to report any unsafe practices by calling 311.
As part of the campaign, pocket-sized English to Spanish translation cards will be distributed with emergency phrases such as ?Call 911? or ?Wear your hard hat.? The Department of Buildings is also launching new safety initiatives that tighten the reins on what contractors and architects can do without getting the city?s go-ahead.
