City Council members and the Patrolman?s Benevolent Association gathered at City Hall Sunday to push for better bulletproof vests for Bronx and city cops.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn said 18,000 members of the NYPD are not properly equipped with safer vests. Officials say the vests have been standard issue since 2002, but that leaves many veteran officers at risk.
Advocates want the mayor to include the estimated $10 million needed to outfit all officers with better vests in next year?s budget.
