Christmas time is a blockbuster time of year at the movies. The beloved Cranford Theater recently reopened after a partial ceiling collapse in April.

No one was injured, but Union County’s only family-run theater was closed for seven months. It officially reopened last month.

“It really was such a blessing, and I'm so grateful, and I thank God every day that we get to open right in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas,” said owner Doreen Sayegh.

The building dates back to the 1920s. Everything has been redone inside, from the carpeting to the HVAC.

“It looks beautiful, " said Stanley and Cindy Gersch, of Westfield. “I think it looks great. It’s nice to see a refresh. We’re glad it’s finally reopened.”

“It’s just a pleasure to come to a local theater,” said Elliott Budashewitz, of Westfield. “They did it up fantastic, the seats are comfortable.”

Movie theaters are one of the businesses that typically stay open on Christmas, earning the workers extra praise.

“These are my team of heroes here,” Sayegh said. “I can't do what I do without them.”
