It’s hard to step outside right now into the frigid temperatures for even a couple minutes, but many workers were out there all day Friday.
State DOT workers in Melville were getting ready for this weekend's storm, loading up the sand trucks and getting the plows ready. State DOT spokesman Stephen Canzoneri says the workers themselves are also prepared, with warm jackets, boots and liners.
Workers also bundle up at the Five Corners Car Wash in New Hyde Park. They say the key to it all is layering their clothing. The guys working in the tunnel and the hand wash have a tendency to get wet though, so they have heaters at the ready.
At a Gulf station in Syosset, Hirem Patel says they hang out by the heaters in their booth after they pump the gas. He says he likes cold weather, but that this past week was way too cold.
