A Suffolk officer accused of causing a deadly wrong-way crash was arraigned on a grand jury indictment today.
Officer Robert Scheuerer is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter. Scheuerer pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors say in September the 24-year-old was off-duty and driving with a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit when he headed the wrong way on Sunrise Highway in West Islip.
According to police, that is when he crashed into a van, killing 37-year-old Brian Fusaro, of Bay Shore.
The Suffolk district attorney says Scheuerer drank 10 pints of beer and one margarita at a bar with fellow officers before driving drunk.
