A day of developments and fallout has moved at a breakneck pace in the day after violent riots at the U.S. Capitol.
Numerous resignations have flowed in since Wednesday evening, including Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao. Chao, who is Sen. Mitch McConnell's wife, says she "cannot set aside" the pro-Trump insurrection.
Facebook and Instagram also made the giant step to ban President Donald Trump from their platforms "indefinitely." CEO Mark Zuckerberg says Trump used the platform to "incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government."
But despite the tech giants' decisions, Trump has been able to get a message out. Through his White House deputy chief of staff following Congress' certification of the presidential election, he released a statement saying, "Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition."
After a late night at the Capitol, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she is calling on Vice President Mike Pence to evoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. Many other lawmakers have issued a similar call.
Republican Lindsey Graham says he supported some of what President Trump did in office, but not what happened Wednesday. He says he will call for a joint task force to identify "every person who breached the security of the Capitol."
Metropolitan police also held a news conference Thursday, saying there were 68 arrests Wednesday -- 42 on Capitol grounds. A seven-foot fence was installed around the Capitol building in the wake of the riots, police say.
