A solemn ceremony Sunday at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale honored the heroes who served the United States.
Flags were placed at each of the graves in the cemetery, and a flyover honored the nation's fallen veterans.
Among the attendees was Korean War veteran Paul Bopp, of Levittown. In 1989, his son Peter lost his life at age 21 aboard the USS Iowa. A peacetime explosion claimed the lives of 47 sailors.
People who attended the ceremony say it's important to remember and honor what Memorial Day is all about.
