Police say a Central Islip man repeatedly beat his pit pull for more than a year.
Police say they discovered the beaten dog while they were responding to a domestic dispute call at a home on Bayonne Avenue. Officers arrested John Bayliss, 39, and charged him with animal cruelty. Bayliss was also charged with menacing in the third degree for an unrelated incident.
The pit bull who was allegedly beaten and another dog owned by Bayliss are in the care of animal control officers.
