Police say a student at Centereach High School was suspended for poking another with a syringe Thursday afternoon.
Police say the accused student pressed the syringe to the back of the other student when he wasn?t looking. Word spread quickly through the school. Students say both of those involved were ninth-graders.
The school superintendent says the needle did not puncture the student?s skin, but he was rushed to Stony Brook Hospital as a precaution. Students say the syringe was filled with cleaning fluid, but neither police nor school officials could confirm what, if anything was inside.
The school superintendent also says the student brought the syringe from home. No criminal charges have been filed.
