While Long Island public schools put sports on hold until 2021, Catholic schools are giving low-risk fall sports a go this week - with precautions.
In the new norm, things may look a little different, but the Catholic League athletes say different has never felt so good.
It's happening thanks to the hard work of the league's athletic directors. They say making sure the kids get the total high school experience was their No. 1 priority.
Getting to this point wasn't easy and staying on the field could be even tougher. Protocols must be followed, from distancing to cleaning.
"The first session we had, we kept telling them, if you are going to put your masks down, stay 6 feet away because everyone wants the season to go on. Everyone wants the season to go on so just have to follow the rules. It's part of coaching now," says Sue Alber, a coach at St. Anthony's.
The games begin Columbus Day weekend.
