As temperatures drop, concerns for the homeless rise.

News12 Long Island's Sean Bergin headed out with Catholic Charities Tuesday in search of homeless veterans to make sure they are staying warm in the deep freeze.

Joe Silva and Lisa Mosquero, from Catholic Charities, say their goal is to find people who are in a tough situation and help them find services and housing.

They say finding homeless citizens is not an easy job. Once they are found, the organization helps them get services from the Department of Social Services or tries to transition them to permanent apartments.

Bergin, along with the two social workers, searched parts of Nassau County for a 64-year-old veteran named Ted who usually sleeps in his car.

After checking different places in Hicksville and East Meadow, Ted was eventually found at a Bethpage hotel he frequents to get cleaned up.

"[Lisa] is a wonderful person and without her...we wouldn't be able to make it through," the veteran told News 12.

The social workers say they will continue their mission, as long as there are cold and homeless Long Islanders that need their help.
