Protesters crowded the dock in Freeport as a controversial casino boat set off for its maiden voyage Friday.
Those who took the ride say the Southern Elegance had a shaky, but successful debut. The boat ran aground in the channel where it was docked moments after casting off, but gamblers say they still managed to have a fun and exciting experience.
Opponents say the boat sticks out like a sore thumb, constitutes an environmental nightmare and brings too many people to an area that is too small to accommodate them. They say the traffic will greatly reduce the quality of life in the area.
