Cases of coronavirus on the rise despite weekend of optimism
Cases of coronavirus are on the rise despite a weekend of optimism.
More than 3,000 new cases were reported in mainland China over the weekend. That news is conflicting with reports that disease control measures might be working.
The death toll is now at least 900, surpassing the 2003 SARS outbreak that killed 774 people.
A total of 65 more people have been diagnosed with the virus on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship, which was quarantined off the coast of Japan - that brings the total to 135.
The passengers were placed into a 14-day quarantine last Wednesday, and are largely confined to their cabins. Among those on board are a Garden City couple who are pleading with President Donald Trump for help.
A cruise ship in New Jersey is departing Monday following a coronavirus scare. Crews on the Anthem of the Seas cleaned the ship after four passengers were feared to have coronavirus. Their test results came back negative.
The ship arrived in Bayonne Friday.
It left Cape Liberty last month for an 11-day cruise to the Caribbean.
