One home and more than a dozen cars were vandalized with bright red spray paint in North Amityville overnight.
Police say the letters "MS" were scrawled onto car doors in the area of Jefferson Street and Washington Avenue.
Suffolk police say they are investigating the incidents, but would not say if they believe the graffiti could have been the work of the MS-13 street gang. But neighbors expressed concerns about gang links.
"They came in this one neighborhood and let their presence be known," said one resident.
Troubled car owners spent the day Monday trying to remove the tags on their own or contacting their insurance companies.
This latest vandalism comes after another incident in Coram last week where gang-related graffiti turned up on homes and cars.
