A cardiologist at an award-winning Manhasset heart hospital was arrested Friday for allegedly spying on his patients.
Police charged 54-year-old Dr. Vincent Pacienza with "unlawful surveillance" for planting a hidden camera in a patient bathroom at his Manhasset practice.
Police say a paper trail led to Dr. Pacienza's arrest. As two of the doctor?s employees were going through the mail, they found a bill for an air purifier from a store that specializes in spy equipment.
The employees looked around the office and discovered the purifier in the bathroom.
According to the police, the device contained a built-in hidden camera. They say it was installed in the restroom within the last two weeks and may have captured images of over 100 patients.
?It's terrible,? said local resident Jean Robinson. ?It doesn't seem possible that something like that is happening in this neighborhood.?
Police confiscated a computer and wireless recording equipment from Dr. Pacienza's North Hills home. They say the doctor could face additional charges, depending on what they uncover when they examine the images that may have been captured by the hidden camera.
