Police say a driver has been arrested after his car went off the road, hit a power pole, went over a guard rail and landed in a ditch in Smithtown.
According to police, the car was traveling eastbound on Route 25 near Old Willets Road when the incident happened around 11:45 p.m. Monday.
Police say the vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed.
Members of the Smithtown Fire Department extinguished the fire, but at the time no occupants were found in the vehicle.
Police say the driver involved was located Tuesday morning and identified as 21-year-old Christopher Steiner, of Port Jefferson.
He was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage
