A car crashed into a Hempstead bank Monday afternoon, injuring at least six people.
Police and ambulances rushed to the scene after the car went right through the front glass window of the Chase Bank on Fulton Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Police say the driver was a 62-year-old woman who was using her granddaughter?s car and was not familiar with the 2000 Honda Accord.
The driver was trying to park in one of the spaces outside the bank and thought she had put her car in park, police say. However, she put it in reverse and went sailing backward through the front of the bank.
Police say the driver could have been going as fast as 30 mph. Six people, including the driver, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
