Brentwood fire officials say the driver was coming off the Fifth Avenue exit ramp of the Southern State Parkway when they cut across Spur Drive and rammed into the home at 395 Spur Drive.
"The car came flying right into the bedroom,” says one tenant.
She told News 12 she was in bed when the crash occurred just before 10:30 a.m.
Authorities say no one was injured. The driver was issued summonses for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unreasonable or imprudent speed and failure to stop at a stop sign.
Neighbors tell News 12 that crashes are common on the block and say they want to safety improvements.
Resident Ricardo Alaverez said a car almost crashed into his home a month ago, but boulders positioned in front of the building blocked the collision.
A Town of Islip spokesperson issued a statement to News 12:
“We are contacting NYS DOT to request implementation of additional safety measures to alert drivers coming off the parkway exit ramp. We are grateful that no one was hurt.”
