Authorities said a car driven by an 18-year-old crashed into a utility pole in North Babylon on Tuesday night, and after a man got out of his car to check on the driver, the teen's car then pinned him against his own car, seriously injuring him.
A neighbor told News 12 the man's leg was severed.
The teen driver, identified as Marianne Mkrtchian of North Bellmore, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious physical injury.
She told News 12 her shoe had gotten caught on the gas pedal before she hit the utility pole.
After that, she said she lost control of the car. Authorities said she tried to flee the scene, but stopped the car after a man took a brick and threw it through her windshield.
A friend of the man struck tells News 12 that he's still in the hospital but is in good spirits and on the road to recovery.
