A Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) work train collided with a car at a track crossing in Bay Shore Wednesday.
The incident happened at the 3rd Avenue crossing east of the Bay Shore station. Police say the car was on the tracks and the work train crashed into it. The driver of the vehicle survived and was taken to the hospital with leg injuries.
The tracks were reopened in time for the morning commute, which was uninterrupted. MTA police are investigating how the car got on the tracks. MTA officials are also checking to see if the signal crossings were working properly.
