A street renaming was held Sunday in honor of Plainview native Omer Neutra – a 21-year-old killed during the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

A section of Manetto Hill Road in Plainview will now be known as Captain Omer Neutra Way.

"This is a very difficult day for us. The community is honoring Omer and his contributions. He had his own way of doing things and we are proud of him, but it's bittersweet," said mother Orna Neutra.

Neutra served as a tank platoon commander in the Israel Defense Forces when he was killed during the Hamas attack.

His family is demanding the return of his body and the remaining live hostages being held by Hamas.
