The captain of the Costa Concordia cruise ship that ran aground and listed off the coast of Tuscany is being investigated for manslaughter in connection with the three people that have so far been confirmed killed in the incident.

Officials say that there about 3,200 passengers and 1,000 crew members aboard at the time of the incident. Of those, 126 passengers were Americans.

Officials say the ship struck a submerged rock and then listed.

Cruise officials said multiple problems from the ship listing to the multiple languages spoken aboard by the ship by passengers made evacuating them difficult.

Some passengers were seen jumping off the ship and attempting to swim.

Officials say that dozens of passengers are still missing and dive teams are being utilized to find them.
