The City Council is starting a campaign aimed at getting eligible Bronx residents to sign up for food stamps.
According to the City Council, more than a half million New Yorkers are eligible for food stamps but are not signing up to receive them. Council members say the lengthy and confusing application process often puts off many residents.
The ?Food Today, Healthy Tomorrow? campaign is targeting those most at risk for going hungry. The City Council says food stamp guidelines are based on income, age and the number of people in a household. The Council adds that using food stamps helps the economy to grow.
