There's something in the skies, and it's catching the attention of the community.

Dennis, a caller on News 12's "Ask the Borough President" expressed concerns about helicopters flying over Marine Park.

“Why do we allow so many helicopters to fly over the congested areas of Brooklyn, instead of just going a couple of miles and flying over the ocean? It’s just an accident waiting to happen, why don’t we do something?" asked Dennis.

Other Marine Park residents, like James Ryan, say it's a disruption to their everyday life.

“You have to stop talking, you feel the house shake, all the neighbors complain about it," said Ryan.

Melissa Elstein, with Stop the Chop NY NJ, says most of the flights heard are commuter flights or sightseeing tours.

“We’re the most densely populated city in the country, and we’re having tens of thousands of these unnecessary flights every single day." said Elstein.

There's a bill in the City Council, that if passed, would prohibit all non-essential, non-electric helicopter operations at heliports owned or operated by the city.

Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso says it's an issue that's plagued residents for awhile.

“It’s an insult that Brooklynites suffer through that noise pollution so that Brooklynites could get to the Hamptons a lot quicker," said Reynoso.

The FAA tells News 12 that “the FAA is committed to meaningful dialogue with communities. The agency continuously works to help reduce the number of people exposed to aviation noise in communities around airports.”
