Businesses on Long Island and across the U.S. are struggling to get customers during the Fourth of July holiday weekend due to the pandemic.
There are several stores and restaurants in Farmingdale that are closed for the holiday, but Le Petit Cafe on Main Street is open for business. The owner, Tina Grimes, says people have been coming by to get a cup of coffee or pick up some food for their party.
The cafe, formerly known as Thyme on Your Side, sells jams, sauces and pastries made from scratch.
Grimes says his business took a hit during New York Pause, but is hopeful for the future.
As business owners do what they can to stay afloat, shoppers like Vicky Gardner make it a point to buy local.
Business owners in Farmingdale say dine-in and walk-in business was not quite what it was on last year's Fourth of July.
