Police say a Suffolk school bus driver was dealing heroin at night.
Police say Maldane Cockett, of Copiague, was arrested after a drug deal last night at the corner of North Broadway and North Beech Street in Massapequa.
Cockett, 26, is a school bus driver for Educational Bus Transportation. In a statement, the company said Cockett's arrest did not involve any school children or their buses. The company also said it is cooperating fully with the authorities and that it has suspended Cockett pending the outcome of the charges.
Detective Lt. Richard LeBrun also says that it doesn't look like Cockett was dealing on the job.
This arrest is Cockett's first drug offense, but he has been arrested for criminal weapons possession before.
He was formally charged today and is due back in court April 21. Bail was set at $12,500 bond or $7,500 cash.
