News of an armed burglar left residents in a Massapequa neighborhood on edge Saturday.
When Herbert Laran returned with his family from a shopping trip Friday evening to his Madison Street home, he was greeted with police cars, a SWAT team and search dogs. Laran says his brother was home at the time and spotted the suspect making a getaway out of a side window.
The suspect allegedly saw Laran?s brother, pointed a gun at him and told him not to move. Laran says his brother was able to run away and call the police.
Police say the burglar took off with a laptop computer. Laran plans on putting up more lights on his house and installing a camera.
With the suspect still on the loose, residents are calling for more police patrols in the neighborhood. They say they have learned a valuable lesson about securing their homes at all times.
