A judge gave a five-day stay of execution Friday to the bulldog that was involved in the mauling attack on a 4-year-old East Meadow boy.
The Long Island Bulldog Rescue filed a motion in court to take custody of Duke. The rescue organization says it wants to evaluate the dog's temperament and possibly put him up for adoption. They say the dog?s actions were caused by irresponsible ownership and added that Duke may have been caught up in a pack mentality with the other dogs.Matthew Henriques was walking with his grandparents and baby sister when he was attacked by two rottweilers and the bulldog on April 28. The attack left Matthew with 250 stitches in his check, ears, torso and legs. The dogs? owner relinquished the dogs to the town of Hempstead. The two rottweilers have already been euthanized.
