Students and volunteers in Brookville participated in the fifth annual meal packing event at Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School Tuesday.
The event started after an earthquake hit Haiti in 2010.
Jennifer Grene, head of the school's English department, lost her husband in the disaster. He was working for the United Nations at the time of the incident.
She created the Andrew Grene Foundation, which raises money and donations for those affected by the earthquake. They are also building a small school for students in Port-au-Prince.
After a week of work, students and volunteers made 48,000 packs of rice dinners for families in Haiti.
