Long Islanders rolled up their sleeves at the Brookhaven Fire Department to help a 10-year-old boy who was diagnosed with leukemia just before Christmas.
Payton McDaniel suffers from acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Since his diagnosis, the fifth grader has had several blood transfusions.
On Thursday evening, a blood drive was held at the Brookhaven Fire Department to help Payton.
"This means a lot for all the support that he is getting and knowing people want to come out from the community and help kids like Payton," says his mother, Amanda McDaniel.
Organizers say more than 100 donors registered to give blood at the event.
