A Bronx mother is expressing her frustration with the NYPD - as well as her pain - one year after her son was fatally stabbed in Brooklyn.

“I want answers,” said Marisol Miranda. “We don’t get any answers.”

Police said Michael Hernandez was killed on the night of March 14, 2025, when a large group gathered outside of Barclays Center in Downtown Brooklyn.

Hernandez was 27 years old.

“Michael was a shining, old soul for 27,” said Miranda.

The motive is still unclear.

Police sources originally told News 12 that they were searching for six to eight men.

Miranda said, at first, investigators told her that, too, then said it was four or five suspects.

“I don't care how many it was,” said Miranda. “I want them all held accountable.”

There has been one arrest so far.

Eighteen-year-old Noah Rentas, of Brooklyn, was arrested on March 25, 2025 - 11 days after the incident. He is charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Rentas is due back in court on March 27.

Miranda said she is praying for him.

“I forgive [Rentas] because God forgives us, right?” said Miranda. “[God] forgives us for our sins every day that we commit. And who am I to not forgive him for his sin? Because I'm a mother.”

But her forgiveness is not overshadowing her frustration.

Miranda told News 12 on Friday that she has not heard from the NYPD since October 2025.

“I want the NYPD to start doing better,” said Miranda. “There are too many cold cases out there. I don’t want my son’s case to be a cold case or an ongoing investigation for 20 years.”

News 12 asked the NYPD multiple times about how many people they are still searching for, and if they can give descriptions of those people. The NYPD has refused to answer News 12's questions.

The family is holding a vigil at 6 p.m. on Saturday night outside of Barclays Center.
