A Bronx boy who was struck by a van Saturday while riding his bike is recovering in a local hospital.
The accident happened near the intersection of Rosedale Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard. Witnesses say the 12-year-old was crossing the northbound side of the Bruckner Boulevard service road on his bicycle.
They say he crossed the intersection in an unauthorized area, darting in front of the van. Gary Corzez, a paramedic, says he was shocked by what he saw.
"I saw the young man literally get hit by the van and was thrown maybe 50 [feet] to 60 feet," he says.
Residents of the community say accidents at the intersection are much too common. In March, a livery cab ran through a stop light and struck six people at the intersection.
