A Nassau County police officer was honored Sunday at the scene where he lost his life in the line of duty.
A bridge over the Cross Island Parkway was dedicated and renamed Police Officer Arthur Lopez Memorial Bridge.
Lopez was shot to death at the Nassau-Queens border while trying to arrest a hit-and-run driver three years ago.
The bridge dedication took place at Jamaica Avenue and 241st Street in Bellerose, Queens.
This dedication ceremony was special to the Lopez family because Sunday would have been Lopez's 33rd birthday.
Lopez served with the Nassau County Police Department for eight years and was assigned to the Emergency Services Unit.
A memorial fund was also set up in his honor.
