Several Long Island breweries are working on a special craft beer that will be given to patrons in exchange for food donations.
The food for beer exchange is all part of Long Island Craft Beer Week, which runs from May 13 to May 22. All food collected will be donated to Long Island Cares, and participants will receive a can of Craft Cares beer in return.
Craft Cares beer is brewed by a collaboration of Long Island breweries, including Blue Point, Great South Bay, Moustache Brewery and more.
"This is a great beer because we're using New York stage-grown malts as a base malt," said Lauri Spitz, of Moustache Brewing Company. "We also got together with all the breweries involved, we all collaborated and came up with the recipe together, and we're all helping to brew it today."
