A Medford man was arrested in Newburgh, New York in connection with the stabbing death of his girlfriend in Holtsville last week, police say.
Wayne Chambers, 49, is accused of killing 46-year-old Sandra McIntosh, of Medford.
According to police, a resident on Woodland Avenue in Holtsville heard McIntosh calling for help. The resident found McIntosh, who was stabbed, near a wooded area on Woodland Avenue and called 911.
Police say Chambers killed McIntosh after picking her up from a shift at Stony Brook University Hospital where she worked as a nurse. Police say he had promised to move his things out of her house because she broke up with him.
As News 12 has reported, McIntosh worked as a nurse and was also a flight attendant at American Airlines.
McIntosh's family tells News 12 that they're thankful police have made an arrest. The family even added $10,000 to a police reward for information.
Sophia Caines, McIntosh's sister, says, "I'm thankful to the person who called in and gave the tip. Very, very grateful for the person now that this guy is where he belongs."
Caines says her sister was a sweet person and didn't deserve what happened to her.
