A bouncer who beat a man to death at a Holbrook Bar was sentenced Friday to 24 years in prison.
David Cruz was found guilty of killing 32-year-old Jake Scott outside Tailgaters in August 2022.
Prosecutors say the Medford man covered security cameras before relentlessly punching Scott until he became unconscious.
Scott died days later.
Cruz addressed the courtroom in a prewritten letter.
"The situation's outcome was not intended, and if I had foreseen this, I would have done so many things differently," Cruz said.
The victim's mother, Deborah Scott, begged the court ahead of the sentencing to give Cruz the maximum.
Cruz was also sentenced to five years' post-release supervision.
Defense attorney Javier Soloano says he plans on appealing the decision.
